Pollution that occurs in our terrestrial
environment can find its way into our drinking water sources.
The communities of Elkhart County pump
our water from underground aquifers.
The water we pump out is eventually
replaced with water that comes from precipitation and infiltrates
through the soil.
If the soil is contaminated from a
chemical spill, this pollution can make its way into the underground
aquifers by travelling with the infiltrating water eventually
contaminating the drinking source.
That’s why it is so important to keep
pollution to a minimum to keep our underground drinking water
sources safe for generations to come.
